Objectives
To develop skills in teaching, evaluating, and mentoring medical students
To develop skills in lecture preparation and presentation
To gain proficiency in student evaluation and preparation of letters of recommendation
To obtain experience in being a medical student clerkship director
Duration: 2 ½ yr track
General Requirements:
PGY1:
Attend at least 2 medical student lectures
Completion of reading materials (binder provided)
PGY2:
Deliver at least 2 medical student lectures
Participate in at least one Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG)
Assist clerkship director during at least month in student evaluations
Begin development of personal project
PGY3:
Mentor 4 th year medical students applying to emergency medicine
Advisor for EMIG
Participate in writing letters of recommendation
Deliver at least 2 medical student lectures
Present core content lecture using non-traditional format
One month as Acting Clerkship Director
Orientation
Administration (scheduling conflicts, lecture assignments)
Teaching Shifts
Mid-term feedback
Final evaluations
Completion of personal project
Encouraged to attend national meeting like CORD academic assembly in Feb/March (medical student educators' track) or a Clerkship Directors of Emergency Medicine meeting at SAEM or ACEP.
Additional Opportunities: Assist in the development and leadership of Clinical Skills Lab for Duke Medical School
