Curriculum
Mentors: Fernando A. Lopez MD and Sarah Stahmer MD
Duration: 2.5 years
Objectives:
Meet the credentialing guidelines for performance of emergency bedside ultrasound by the second year.
Participate in the continuous quality assurance monitoring of sonographic studies performed in the Emergency Department (ED).
Participate in teaching of bedside ultrasound by giving one core content lecture in ultrasound to the Emergency Medicine (EM) house staff.
Participate in regional, national, or international Ultrasound (US) courses.
General Requirements:
PGY1:
Acquire the necessary technical and interpretive skills towards achieving competency in US.
PGY2:
Complete departmental requirements for credentialing in US.
Give one core content lecture in EM US.
Assist in monthly ultrasound quality assurance process.
Develop independent written project*.
PGY3:
Give one core content lecture in EM US.
Assist in monthly ultrasound quality assurance process.
Complete independent project.
Participate in teaching US at regional, national, or international courses.
* Independent written Project (One required):
Case report describing a novel application of US in the ED.
Independent research project.
Meaningful participation in a departmental US research project.
Development of a novel approach to teaching of assessing competency in US.
